Ultramarine aims to provide support for various ARM-based retro-gaming handhelds from various vendors, including but not limited to:

  • AYANEO
  • AYN
  • TRIMUI
  • Anbernic
  • Retroid
  • Mangmi
  • Powkiddy

Most of these handhelds have low-powered AArch64-based SoCs from Rockchip, Mediatek and/or Allwinner, comes with very tight memory requirements as small as 1GB and requires extensive custom BSP integration for vendor-specific hardware and boot firmware.

The currently experimental Ultramarine Embedded Handheld edition is designed for these weaker handhelds that do not have the hardware capability to handle Steam and/or SteamOS.

Since traditional desktop environments and shells do not typically target this hardware profile or form factor, we created Marina, a lightweight gamepad-first shell built to handle the hardware and software requirement of these low-powered devices.

Currently Ultramarine Embedded Handheld only supports the TRIMUI Smart Pro S powered by a custom Allwinner Tina Linux SDK kernel patch, with planned experimental support for the Anbernic RG55G1 from our fellow Open Gaming Collective member ArmadaOS for Qualcomm ABL support
