Budgie Edition switched to Wayland in Ultramarine 44, meaning it needs a new greeter to work fully.
You may have received a notification about this on your Budgie system that lead you here.
Switching to SDDM
This part is easy, just run switch2sddm in the terminal, you will be prompted for your password twice, after the program finishes you’ll need to reboot, so save your work and press enter to do it.
